EM Recruitment Season Overview for 2024-2025

 All of our interviews will again be conducted virtually this year. For EM applicants, we are using Thalamus for invites, waitlist and interviews this year. While most of this information will also apply for EM/IM applicants, there are some differences in the process explained a little further below. In order to give you as much information as early as possible, we have provided detailed and updated information on this website.  We have also prepared videos and handouts which we hope you will review prior to the interview day. During the recruitment season we hope to give you multiple opportunities to ask questions and get to know us:  

1) Welcome session with the program director
2) Interviews with PD, APD and other faculty members
3) Interview with resident
4) Virtual Hangouts/Second Looks (optional)
5) Second Look events in person at HFH (optional)

Interview Day Schedule

EM applicants will have 5 interviews spread throughout the day (PD, APD, resident, faculty members). EM/IM applicants will speak with the EM/IM, EM and IM Program Directors as well as a faculty member during their interview day. You will have breaks mixed into the day.

9:00 am EST: PD Welcome
9:30 am – 11:30 am EST: Interviews 
11:30 am – 11:50 am EST: Informal chat with available residents – Resident life in Detroit discussion and Q&A with residents
11:50 am – 14:00 pm EST: Interviews

Virtual Hangouts and Second Looks

One of the most valuable aspects of our interview process is the opportunity for you to meet our residents. We understand this is challenging in a virtual environment and we will be offering in-person second look events again this season. All of these virtual and in-person events are offered solely for your benefit and there are not any expectations of attendance on our end. We understand you many not be able to attend in-person for a variety of reasons and attendance will not impact your position on the rank list in any way. We will continue to offer virtual options to provide everyone an opportunity to meet our residents and ask them questions important to you. If you rotated with us, do not feel that you need to attend Virtual Hangouts or Second Looks. You already spent a month with us! 

We will also be using Thalamus to facilitate the scheduling of these events. You can view the events and sign up via the Thalamus calendar. Please only sign up for one of the virtual hangout dates so that we are able to accommodate everyone. You may also sign up for an in-person second look if you would like to visit with us. If you need to change your date, feel free to reschedule in Thalamus.

We understand that people may have schedules that may not align with our in-person dates. If you are planning to be in or near Detroit and would like to visit us in a less formal manner, please contact our coordinators, Nicole Reid (EM) and Jennifer Owens (EM/IM). We will do our best to accommodate you based on our availability.

EM Program Virtual Hangouts/Virtual Second Looks

Second Looks at Henry Ford Hospital for EM and EM/IM Applicants
These events will occur from 9AM EST to 2PM EST at Henry Ford Hospital. The official event will conclude at 2 so that people can travel that afternoon and evening if needed. Our didactics run from 11-4 and you are more than welcome to stay later if you would like.

EM/IM Specific Information

The EM/IM program is also using Thalamus for scheduling and interviews. The interview day is a little differently organized and this will be communicated to you in more detail via the ERAS communications.

January 7, 2025 Tuesday 7-8 pm EST

EM/IM candidates will also be able to attend the In-person Second Look events. Sign up via Thalamus.
