Mentorship
We at Henry Ford EM understand the crucial role that advising, and mentorship play in a resident’s experience and career development.
House system
Residency Houses are our main structured process for faculty advising and support of residents. Each house is composed of 5-6 Emergency Medicine Faculty and 9 residents (3 from each PGY year). By building a small community within the residencies, Houses provide both faculty mentorship and peer resident mentorship in one system. There are 6 Houses, and they are named after major lakes in Michigan: Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, St. Clair and Torch.
Subspecialty Group Mentorship
The Critical Care and Ultrasound Divisions have opportunities for group mentorship, as detailed below:
Critical Care Interest Group serves residents who are interested in pursuing a Critical Care fellowship. We have over 10 faculty who have completed fellowships in Critical Care and practice in both the Emergency Department and Critical Care units. This group meets quarterly.
Ultrasound Quality Assurance Sessions – We have over 6 Ultrasound trained faculty who participate in monthly QA sessions. These sessions are a great opportunity to both go through various clinical cases while reviewing images with Ultrasound Faculty as well as an opportunity to build a mentoring relationship.
